The ultimate success of commercial and mixed-use projects and commercial revitalization initiatives rests on the ability of community organizations to attract strong retail tenants that complement the existing neighborhood business mix and provide needed services to existing residents.  While CDCs frequently commission retail market studies for use in obtaining financing, they often do not use them as the basis of a leasing strategy.  In this training, Dena Belzer of Strategic Economics will help participants become more informed consumers of market research and learn data collection and analysis methods that will be most useful in CDCs’ business recruitment and leasing strategies.  Ms. Belzer has 20 years experience in the field of urban economics, and her current focus is on developing research techniques that combine a range of data to create place-based tools for addressing growth-related issues in neighborhoods, cities, and metropolitan areas.
