Green Connection Resources

Fri, Aug 3, 2007; by Cathy Craig.

Bay Area LISC started work on energy efficiency back in 2002 through our Energy Action program. Energy Action provided engineering services, technical assistance, trainings, project implementation assistance, and financial incentives to help hundreds of publicly funded multifamily affordable housing properties become more energy efficient. Since then, we have expanded our program to include green building. Our comprehensive Green Connection program includes a green loan fund, a peer network (the Green Affordable Housing Coalition), technical assistance, trainings, tools and resources to assist with the construction and rehabilitation of green affordable housing. Greening the existing housing stock is an enormous unmet need LISC has been working hard to address.

What's New?

Green Guide for Rehab
The Green Guide for Rehab is an accessible and in-depth tool to help affordable housing owners and their consultants integrate green building and energy efficiency into the upgrades of their multifamily properties. Bay Area LISC developed the guide with Build It Green, a Berkeley based non-profit organization promoting healthy and energy efficient housing. The guide contains four sections — site condition and systems, building construction, mechanical systems and interior spaces — with advice on incorporating the green building principles of energy efficiency, water conservation, resource conservation, and healthy indoor environments. It also looks at the cost and cost-effectiveness of green strategies to assist affordable housing developers in making decisions about which measures to include in their rehab projects.

Green Operations & Maintenance: Toolkit and Buyer's Guide
Bay Area LISC is pleased to offer the Green Operations and Maintenance: Toolkit and Buyer's Guide. Divided into three parts, the guide provides an overview of why operations and maintenance staff should care about greening their facilties, as well as a green toolkit of products — including paint, cleaning products, flooring and carpet, and lighting — that could be incorporated into operations. Finally, the guide provides a substantial matrix of green products, estimated costs, and local retailers. The guide was funded by The Home Depot Foundation.
