Succession Planning
Executive Directors are very special people. The identity and reputation of a community development organization is often closely associated with that of its Executive Director. So Executive Director transitions are seen as very risky times for an organization.
In February, 2002, Bay Area LISC and the Non-Profit Housing Association of Northern California hosted a forum for Executive Directors and their guests to explore ways incorporating succession planning into their organizational culture. Jan Masaoka and Tim Wolfred of CompassPoint NonProfit Services made a presentation about the work of CompassPoint's Executive Leadership Services and shared stories about how a range of organizations have dealt with executive transitions.
